🎃 How to Apply Decoupage Tissue Paper to a Canvas Bag
(Iron-On Method)
What You’ll Need:
-
Your favorite Whimsykel Spooky Design
-
A canvas bag (from your local thrift store, craft store, or your stash)
-
Mod Podge or your preferred decoupage medium
-
Soft paint brush or sponge brush
-
Iron
-
Parchment paper
-
Piece of cardboard (to place inside the bag)
Directions:
-
Prep your bag:
Slide the cardboard inside the bag to prevent bleed-through and create a flat surface. Iron the fabric first to remove wrinkles. -
Apply your Mod Podge base:
Using your brush, apply a thin, even coat of Mod Podge over the area where you want your Whimsykel design. Make sure it covers completely but isn’t gloppy. -
Let it dry completely:
This is key! The Mod Podge should dry clear and slightly tacky — not wet. (You can speed it up with a hair dryer on low.) -
Position your tissue paper:
Place your Whimsykel tissue design carefully on top of the dried Mod Podge, making sure it’s smooth and aligned the way you want it. -
Iron it on:
Lay a sheet of parchment paper over the tissue. Using your iron on medium heat (no steam), press gently and move slowly in small circles. The heat will re-activate the Mod Podge underneath, bonding the tissue to the bag. Watch the magic happen! -
Seal it in:
Once cooled, apply a light top coat of Mod Podge over the design to protect it. Let it dry completely before using.
✨ Creative Tip: For a vintage Halloween finish, lightly brush the edges with dark wax or watered-down brown paint after sealing.
